Community gardeners and gardening enthusiasts are invited to attend a six week webinar series offered by MSU extension. We’ll explored planning and preparation, plant selection, types of gardening, garden maintenance, soil preparation and other gardening topics. A copy of the webinar materials is available to check out from the library, ask at front desk.
The Bridgman Public Library Community Garden was awarded a $4,145.00 grant from the Berrien and Calhoun Conservation Districts, funded by the People's Community Gardens of Southwest Michigan. This grant will help the Community Garden expand their current garden with raised beds, raised accessible garden planters and a storage shed. By receiving this grant, the Library is able to make their mission statement "to enrich our community with resources that educate, inform and inspire" more tangible. The Library is working hard to offer some great demonstrations and workshops through their adult garden club and will again offer a youth garden club to teach about growing food. To kick off the 2013 growing season, the Library hosted "Dinner and a Book" with special guest Joey DiMaggio. Watch for future programs.
Congratulations to the Bridgman Public Library Community Garden leader, Teri Sue Wines, for writing this winning grant.
