Fandom Fest

@ The Mendel Lake Michgian College

Calling all geeks, nerds, and fans of nerdy, geeky culture.  BPL and other area libraries are hosting Fandom Fest at the Mendel.  This “comic-con” style event will host artists, exhibitors, a gaming space, maker activities, a LARPing demo, costume contests, and more.  Don’t miss out on this unique, free event.  Fandom Fest will appeal mostly to adults and teens, families with younger children are encouraged to attend during 11-1 pm which is family fun time.


Fandom Fest 101: Costumes and Props

3:30-4:30pm

In preparation for our Fandom Fest in April 1st we are offering DIY tutorials to learn basic skills to make your own Costume. Participate in all of the classes or only come to one. There is something for everyone.

           Jan 5th - Belt Pouch

Whether you are a Super hero in need of a utility belt or Steampunk Mechanic in need of a tool belt come and learn the basics of hand sewing needed to create a Belt Pouch. (Please bring your own belt)

            Feb 2nd – Arm Guard

In this DIY you will learn how to paint faux leather while making an arm guard out of craft foam that any archer would be proud of.

            Feb 23rd – Steampunk Top Hat

With using just cardboard, hot glue and paint you will create a fantastic metal looking top hat.

            March 2nd – Steampunk goggles

Come and learn how to transform cheap safety glasses into Steampunk goggles. Also you will learn how to create hot glue molds.

            March 23rd – Hooded Cape

Learn how to make a simple cape/cloak for you casplay costune.


Teen Story Contest
Sponsored by the Friends!

In honor of the library’s 50th anniversary, the Friends of the Bridgman Public Library sponsored a story contest for teens in grades 7-12.  The rules were simple.  Write an original story between 500-2000 words that is creative, well-written, and features, in some way, the Bridgman Public Library.  Fourteen stories were submitted.  Three winners were chosen.

1st Place The Forgotten Shelf by Katherine Moore  $200
2nd Place Untitled by Spencer Noll  $150
3rd Place 2516 by Kyle Buist  $100
